The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!!

Sometimes I buy stuff after a very short listen deciding I like it. Somehow this has not steered me wrong yet. It does give me many excited moments of “wow this is even cooler than I thought!” This has all the weight, depth and darkness I could hope for. At moments reminds me of a band I loved who is no longer together, but Andvaka brings more into it.

Funeral Doom has long interested me, yet some of it can be meandering and monotonous. perhaps it was a bad band and perhaps it hadn't clicked for me. Perhaps it was just age and now being older than when I was a teenager helps that. perhaps OM is just crushing and dense and has no problem being epic and thunderous. It is finally time to dive deep into Funeral Doom. 4.5/5
